Dear prospective buyer,

Let’s assume that you want to buy one of these sculptures. You can acquire your piece today and help the world. Here´s the deal: KLA donates all his time for free and derives no income from the sale. You, the buyer, will pay a normal retail price for your acquisition. One-half of this payment will cover all of the direct costs associated with the production and delivery of the sculpture to your home or office. Then the other half, what would have been the artist’s profit, will go to support the social cause of your choice, and the world will have been made a little bit better.

Your first option is to improve the lives of very poor children. You will write two checks: the first one is for exactly one-half of the price and is sent to the Calcagno foundry in Portland, Oregon; there your numbered piece will be carefully cast, patined, mounted and shipped to you. The second check will be sent to World Vision in El Salvador or Haiti; this half of your investment is made as a fully tax-deductible donation in your name. 100% of this donation will be used to support child development programs that help poor, rural kids to develop their inborn potential, and it just might allow some of them to escape the almost unimaginable poverty that has affected their families, sometimes for generations. (KLA as a secular humanist agnostic finds it richly ironic that he is soliciting support for a Christian program that does a great job.)

A second option is similar. Again, your first check is for one-half of the total cost of your sculpture and goes to the foundry. The second check is donated to support the annual Escultura Es Cultura sculpture festival in El Salvador. This festival, now in its sixth year, organizes and sponsors more than 20 exhibitions, workshops and other activities every year. It is a powerful stimulus of 3D art in El Salvador and Central America. (Full disclosure: KLA is currently President of TEA Escultores, the volunteer group that organizes the festival.)

El segundo cheque es para Visión Mundial en El Salvador o Haití; esta mitad de tu inversión es una donación a nombre tuyo y completamente deducible de tus impuestos en los EEUU. Cien por ciento de esta donación se usará en programas que ayudan a los niños pobres del área rural a desarrollar su potencial y tal vez les permitirán a algunos de ellos de escapar a la casi inimaginable pobreza que afecta estas familias, algunas veces por generaciones. La segunda opción es similar. Otra vez, tu primer cheque es por la mitad del costo de tu escultura y va para la fundición. El segundo cheque es para apoyar el Festival Escultura es Cultura que se realiza anualmente en El Salvador con más de 20 exhibiciones, talleres y otras actividades.
